Occidental
is located in Sonoma County, just 30 miles north of San Francisco. This is a region that is home to an eclectic variety of special events. Not only will you find the usual arts and crafts shows, entertainment, and festivals, but also unique events such as a “tattoo and blues festival” and “crab and fennel fest.” The following is a list of some of the special events found in Sonoma County, listed by month. January
Exhibit: Darkness & Dream – A winter show that features fine arts and crafts at galleries owned by Sonoma County artists: painting, prints, sculpture, ceramics, photography, and jewelry are featured.
February
Cotati Crab Extravaganza – Visitors enjoy an abundance of crab, pasta, bread and salad at this annual feast in the town of Cotati.
Annual Tattoos and Blues - This one-of-a-kind event includes three days of tattooing and body piercing by more than 40 of the world's finest artists and three days of some of the best live Blues performances. March
Russian River Wine Road Presents Barrel Tasting – An annual event for 30 years. Over 100 wineries participating in this event held the first two weekends in March. For more information, call 707-433-4335.
Crab & Fennel Fest – Russian River Valley Winegrowers – Visitors get a chance to roll up their sleeves and crack fresh Dungeness crab, enjoy great wine and experience culinary creations of fennel made by local chefs. In addition to the great food and wine, the evening also includes a special Director's Wine Tasting featuring rare and hard-to-find wines. The Russian River Valley Winegrowers' Board of Directors will pour special and unique bottles of wine pulled out of their cellar to provide samples for the night. The evening also includes spirited crab races and a silent auction of unique wines, overnight stays and culinary experiences. Advanced ticket purchase required. This event will sell out. California's Artisan Cheese Festival- Visitors learn to taste, buy, serve and enjoy the fine cheeses made in Sonoma County. The expanded 4-day program includes educational seminars, chef demos, cheesemaking classes, wine pairings and lots of fun.

Annual Luther Burbank Rose Parade and Festival – An annual event for 114 years, this festival is one of Sonoma County's most honored tradtions and one of the oldest and largest events of its kind in Northern California. For more information, call 707-542-7673.

Catalan Festival of Wine, Food and Music - This event is all about good food, great wines, and lots of fun - all with a Catalan accent. This two-day extravaganza celebrates Catalonia; one of Spain's most colorful and diverse regions.
